Question by david r: What is the purpose of a car insurance firm giving quotes for the other insurance businesses?
ust questioning… could they perhaps lie about it? Why would they give quotes of the other firms if theirs isn’t as excellent as the other ones? To me it just sort of seems like they are screwing themselves… Does anybody know why they do this?

Properly, they are attempting to act like an AGENT. You can go to an independent agent, and get quotes from 10 various companies, such as Progressive, and the AGENT will give you quotes.
Progressive Can’t give you a ‘binding quote’ or even a especially accurate one, with another organization.
So of course it is a advertising and marketing thing. They’re trying to convince you to go with them, instead of going to a local agent, who will do the same thing, at no added charge.
