Question by kamakazi45: Is there a job where I can drive a car for a couple weeks and review it and drive another one?
Is there such a job out there and do I need a degree to do it?

Many years ago the auto manufacturers would select
certain people who had excellent reputations, and
recommendations in auto maintenance, and repair to
test drive new, or experimental vehicles for them. They
wanted to have a knowledgeable, first hand report of
their vehicles. My uncle was one that had done this
for years. He would be called by a manufacturer, told
where they had a car for him to drive, and give them
his ideas. At times he would even have to drive to a
plant somewhere to get it. He was given all the
expenses for his time, and any other costs with the
trip, but all that might be needed for the car was paid
for as needed.

These days are long gone. Manufacturers now have
computer programs to iron out most problems, and
have their own test drivers for the rest.

Seldom today does any company give out a car for
this, and seldom pays for any reviews unless the
person making a review has a very solid reputation in
writing such reviews.

Some private companies will buy a car for this purpose.
The cars aren’t free. They will then drive them just for
the purpose of writing about them, and then sell them
after they review is done. Some people look for those
‘tested’ cars about which some published review has
used them to make.

About the only other way is to get the position with
some manufacturer, actually working for them, to do
this type of work. Otherwise, it just isn’t done anymore.
