Looks like the driver may have passed out for some reason. I wish there was more video to show what happened next.
As for gates on this crossing, they would not have helped. A crossing gate is made of wood; it’s basically a long 2X4. Some are metal, but still don’t have much more strength than their wooden cousins.
The man was there to turn the signal on and off. This was not an automatic signal.
Hope the driver was okay and the car could be repaired.
@codeblueacls911 The guy with the radio is a volunteer with the railway. He is there because the crossing signal is operated manually. This wasn’t a training exercise.

@jwcalla1 No you dont really need a crossing arm…. Idealy this shouldn’t happen at all. But it’s to the benefit of the City, pedestrians, business owners, drivers, and customers, that proper safety devices are available. Unless they were getting ready to put one on when this happened. Notice how the box on the pole is open. Maybe thats why that guy is standing there. waiting for his construction crew to show up and thats his work truck on on the side.

Okay why is there no flashing rail road crossing bar there? I say the train company is just as at fault as this driver…. Even if he or she shouldn’t be driving in the first place….
@Adam19822000 one time i saw 2 separate car accidents in two weeks on the same street with women drivers being the ones at fault both times…..so it’s pretty typical of women drivers to do something like this.
